Prototype notes
What the audit said, and what v2 did with it.
The DigitalMarketer Home Page Optimizer thread scored the doc 21 of 28 and listed five priority changes:
- Put "Keep 100% of your tips" in or right under the hero.
- Show the audience-to-request-to-payment flow visually near the top.
- Move real earnings proof into the first quarter of the page.
- Cut a quarter to a third of the lower page, or move it to supporting pages.
- Organise the whole page around the five things a visitor must believe.
v1 is the doc as written, with only feature cards and technical facts changed. v2 keeps as much of the doc as possible and applies the audit.
Version 55 · 2026-10-19
Grayson's read, and what changed.
From his "Web Copy Feedback" email of Saturday Oct 17 and the Oct 14 call. Applied to both homes unless it says otherwise.
The email
- Testimonials under each section: one from an audience member and one from a musician. Gordon: every quote stays directly related to the content beside it, so audience quotes sit with audience sections and performer quotes with the rest; both kinds only where both fit.
- "It's what you don't say." A vibe of "we're the best"; leave the musician room to work it out; pull the competitor section until there's a better gauge. The competitor section is off both homes (the research stays on file for Brian). The lines that might still read that way, for the call: "Seriously, it's a powerhouse" (Grayson's own line), "What more do you need to know?", "Used at real gigs every weekend" (v2 hero), "Tuned for bigger tips" (v2).
- Too text-heavy; show more than tell, mainly the feature list. The features page now shows a screen beside each group, with a note that a short walkthrough video per group replaces most of the words once filmed.
- Home hero: v2 is better. v1 now carries v2's hero: three claims and the proof line.
- "They request. You decide what gets played." leans legal; "v1 of this text nails it." v2 now opens that section with v1's line, "If you're playing for tips, you might as well be good at it." and the bold venmo line. "Requests aren't commands" softened to "You always choose what you play", no "legally".
- "Built on stage, not in a conference room" is killer. Stays in v2's founder block; v1 could take it too.
- Drummers: keep the dig. Kept, with the drummer's own line added: "it's really a cymbal of a greater problem."
- "I" and "we" are mixed; say "we". "We" everywhere outside the two letters: the proof section, the Monday video, "we build this thing in public", "(You can turn this off, but we wouldn't.)"
- A brand entity like CU3 or Clippy to soften the edges. Not built. A question for the call.
- His new About letter. On the page as he wrote it, lyric lines kept: cigar-stenched fingers, "I play, I work, and I want to do and be better", quadrupled then 10x, $40–80 a night to a $300 average, the 6-hour night at a 4-hour gig and over $600 in tips, "they called my bluff". The home teasers open the same way. The "hands in my pockets" list and "I cut everyone else out" went with it.
Version 61, 11:00: v2 revised from outside notes
- Order: hero, the audience and performer visual, proof of earnings, then the app gallery, then the rest (the gallery moved up from below the utilities).
- "Stacked with musician utilities" is now "You came for more tips. You'll probably stay for the gig tools."
- The previous v2 is kept as "v2 before 11:00" in the tab strip.
From the Oct 14 call, now in
- The venmo line in bold.
- "Smart search by title, artist(s) and writers."
- "Suggested request amounts."
- Payments: Venmo, Zelle and Cash App added to Gordon's list.
- v1 hero: the subhead under the headline came out (Grayson: redundant with the claims).
- The triptych's third panel is Chicken Farmer; Gordon takes pickleballer.
- The set-lists card: describe the gig, paste the show notes or snap a photo, the AI builds it.
- The stats card: audience behavior, your notes, an AI recap and more detailed metrics than you'll ever need.
- The patio quote says "a full hour", as tested live.
- "(You can turn this off, but we wouldn't.)" in parentheses.
- Monday video: what last week's gigs paid; "from the stage" cut from the walkthrus card.
- The Wonderwall quote rewritten so it understands the cooldown.
- "A nickelodeon is an old-timey jukebox, BTW."
- Gordon's panel: Marketer. Enthusiast. Pickleballer.
Still Gordon's call
- "Publish your queue, or don't" is dropped: the app doesn't show the queue and shouldn't (Gordon).
- "Plug requests to the audience" now reads "Tell the audience you take requests", a stand-in until he writes the line.
- The Elvis satire quote moved to "What more do you need to know?" on both homes.
- The short URL still reads tipelodeon.com/your-name; the real path is /project/your-name and the tiny domain is unsettled.
- Release notes: still the twelve samples; the repo is not wired up.
| Audit point | v2 | v1 |
|---|---|---|
| Top section, 3/4 Five stacked claims under the headline dilute it; compress the hero to discovery, requesting, tipping, and put 'Keep 100%' in the hero. Add a proof line under the button. | v2 hero keeps Gordon's headline and subhead, cuts the five claims to three (no app for the audience, no cost to you, keep 100%), and adds 'Built by a gigging musician. Used at real gigs every weekend.' under the button. | v1 keeps all five claims as written. |
| Imagery, 3/4 Lead with the product in context (audience phone, performer tablet) and move the founder lower. | Both homes open with the phone mock beside the real iPad slide. In v2 the founder section sits after the tools; in v1 Grayson's triptych stays high, as the doc has it. | v1 order as written. |
| Top menu, 2/4 Unspecified in the doc. Keep it plain: How it works, Features, Pricing, About, with a persistent 'Get Tipelodeon, free' button; sticky bottom CTA on phones. | Done on every page: How It Works, Features, Pricing, About, On Tour, one green button, sticky CTA on phones. | Same on v1; the menu was never in the doc. |
| Call to action, 4/4 The repeated, escalating buttons work. Standardise the primary wording and keep the jokes as secondary copy. | v2: every primary button reads 'Get Tipelodeon, free'; the bottom joke buttons stay as written. | v1 keeps every button label as written. |
| Body, 3/4 Strongest spine: problem, outcome, proof, audience, performer, pricing, setup, advanced features. The Venmo line deserves its own section. 'You always choose what you play' answers the Free Bird fear; make it a section. Group the feature pile into 4–6 cards. | v2 follows that order; the Venmo line is a section; 'Requests aren't commands' is a section with the wiki's own line as a quote; six cards. | v1 keeps the doc's order; the six cards replace the bullet pile in both (Gordon allowed feature cards and technical fixes). |
| Trust, 3/4 Move the Monday proof up and make it numbers. Testimonials must be specific. Label the Elvis joke. Strengthen the founder block: 'Built on stage, not in a conference room.' | v2: proof is the third section with three number slots; quote placeholders are written as specific results; Elvis is labelled a joke; the founder block carries the audit's line, then the letter's opening as the teaser. | v1: proof where the doc put it; Elvis unlabelled, as written. |
| Footer, 3/4 Keep the bottom joke, but put a real footer under it with product, help, legal and login. | Both homes end with the joke, then a four-column footer. | Same. |
| The five beliefs Build the page around what a visitor must believe: I'll earn more; my audience will use it; it won't make performing harder; I stay in control; there's no downside to trying. | v2 closes with exactly those five lines under 'What more do you need to know?' | v1 closes with the single question and the button. |
| Cut 25–35% of the lower page Release notes, news, newsletter, roadmap, long competitor riffs: off the conversion path or to the bottom. | v2: release notes are one link; competitors are a sourced table; What's up, press and newsletter remain at the bottom because Gordon wants his copy kept wherever it fits. | v1 keeps all of it, with the sample release-notes feed. |
Shared by both, on purpose
- Gordon's lines wherever they fit, including the setup steps, the fee bullets, 'Buy better food', the nerd section and the bottom joke.
- Facts from the wiki where the doc was off: fee brackets, payout timing, instant cash-out, the free-song rule, which platforms the app runs on.
- The six feature cards, the screenshot gallery, What's up, press, newsletter, and the real footer.
Still open
- Payments: Grayson's list on the call (Venmo, Zelle, Cash App added to the doc's six) is in; per the wiki, Venmo, Zelle and PayPal are the musician's own buttons, not checkout methods.
- Dollar figures, real quotes, the triptych photos, the Monday video, press, the real release notes.
- The competitor section is off the homes at Grayson's ask; it and the Gruen photo go past Brian before anything returns.
